Located in the heart of the region, this historic hotel, built in 1934, remains a hidden gem that once exuded elegance and charm. Known as The Hotel Kosmos, it enchanted visitors with its stunning vistas, earning a place as a beloved landmark. Despite its current state of abandonment, the hotel still boasts magnificent views, a testament to its timeless allure.
The origins of this historic site date back to 1889 when a watchtower was built on a hill in the nearby Westouter area, providing panoramic views of the picturesque surroundings. Unfortunately, it was destroyed during the First World War. After the Second World War, the site was reconstructed, and in 1934, the iconic Hotel-Restaurant Kosmos Dranouter was established on a different hill, drawing tourists with its unique charm. The park’s allure was further enhanced in the 1960s with the addition of an open-air swimming pool.
The hotel was renowned for its unique outdoor swimming pool, the only one of its kind in the region. Perched on a mountain slope amidst a forest backdrop, the pool offered a tranquil oasis. Unfortunately, this picturesque feature eventually became the hotel’s downfall.
In 2002, the Hotel Kosmos lost its license for the swimming pool, which precipitated its financial decline and eventual bankruptcy. By 2005, the hotel ceased operations. In 2010, the site underwent a transformation into a park. Today, an amphitheater occupies the space where the pool once stood, revitalizing the area.
